Installation Guide

Misting system installation tips and ideas.

Looking for that WOW factor for your backyard? Mistech Cooling high-pressure misting systems are designed to be DIY-friendly, with quick-connect fittings that make assembly simple. This guide covers how to plan your system, the basic install steps, and some clever ideas for a clean, hidden finish.

Mistech Cooling is a supply-only business. You can install the system yourself, or use your own plumber, electrician or handyman.

Before You Start

A little planning makes the install quicker and keeps your warranty intact.

  • Plan your layout. Measure the area you want to cool and sketch where the misting line will run. Send it to us and we'll recommend your pump and nozzle count.
  • Stay within your pump's nozzle limits. Each pump has a minimum and maximum number of nozzles. Check with us before adding nozzles, changing nozzle sizes or adding zones.
  • Use clean, filtered water. Connect to a potable water supply through at least a 5-micron pre-filter. Tell us before ordering if you're using tank or bore water.
  • Find a spot for the pump. It needs a power point and water tap nearby, and protection from the weather.
  • Use licensed trades where required. Any electrical or plumbing work that legally needs a licence must be done by a licensed person. Check whether you need council or water authority approval, or backflow prevention.
  • Check your structure. Make sure the fence, pergola or roofline you mount to is sound and suitable.

Step-by-Step Installation

1. Mount the misting line. Fix the 304 grade stainless steel misting line (3/8" outer diameter) along your roofline, pergola, fence or gutter using suitable clips or brackets.

2. Run the supply line. Connect the nylon supply line from the pump location to the start of your misting line.

3. Flush the line. Before fitting nozzles, run water through the line to clear any debris.

4. Fit the nozzles. Screw in the misting nozzles, and add nozzle extensions where you want to aim the mist.

5. Connect the pump. Connect the pump to your filtered water supply and the supply line, then plug it in.

6. Test the system. Turn it on, check every fitting for leaks, and confirm each nozzle is producing a fine mist.

Looking after your system: clean or replace your filter regularly, clear blocked nozzles with white vinegar, and drain the lines if you won't use the system over winter.

Installation Ideas

Hidden install in Colorbond fencing

1.-Color-bond-fence.JPG - large

Want cooling without seeing the pipe? The misting line can be concealed inside the top rail of a Colorbond fence (or similar). Once it's in, the only visible part is the nozzle peeking out from under the fence capping, creating a cooling curtain of mist around your yard that can lower the temperature by up to 10°C.

  • Fit 2 or 3 nozzles per 2.4 m fence panel, depending on how much cooling you want.
  • Colour-matched nozzles are available to suit your fence.
  • Running the line around the perimeter of your yard cools you, your guests and your pets.

Hidden install in guttering

The misting line can also sit along the inside lip of your guttering. It's designed not to interfere with or restrict water flow in the gutter, and all you see are the nozzles peering over the edge, spraying a fine curtain of mist. Nozzles can be supplied colour-matched to your guttering for a seamless finish.

Nozzle extensions

Flexible nozzle extensions in 5 cm, 10 cm, 15 cm and 20 cm lengths let you aim the mist in any direction, so you can direct cooling exactly where you need it.

Ask us about colour-matched nozzles and extensions when you order.
